Read on each maker's own page on 19 October 2026. "Poured in" is taken from the maker's own wording, recorded on our maker list; where they don't say, neither do we.
What do candle makers usually ask a new stockist?
The application forms we read ask much the same things: your business name and address, whether you have a physical shop, a website or both, and what else you sell. Nevé asks for three similar brands you already carry; NŌLA asks what kind of business you are and says it checks fit, location and its existing stockist network before opening an account. Expect a short conversation rather than an instant trade login.
Is there a minimum order for wholesale candles?
Usually, but most makers don't publish it. NŌLA is the exception, at $300 before freight. Earth Candles says it sends pricing and minimums when you enquire. If you are a small shop testing a range, ask whether you can start with a mixed case across scents, and what the reorder minimum is, which is often lower than the opening order.
What should a shop check before taking on a candle range?
- Where it's poured, in the maker's own words. If you will sell it as New Zealand made, the claim has to be accurate. How to tell a candle is made in NZ covers what to look for.
- The wax and wick, in writing. Customers ask. What the waxes actually are.
- A burn time. It lets a customer compare value per hour, and few makers publish one.
- Freight. Glass is heavy. Ask how freight is charged before comparing wholesale prices.
- Whether they already have a stockist near you. Several makers limit how many shops carry them in one area.
Where do you buy candles in bulk for a wedding or event?
For tables and venues, most people want plain unscented candles in quantity rather than a scented retail range. Dinner and pillar candles are the usual choice. National Candles, in Wellington, sells dinner and pillar candles and a Seven Hour Candle from $7. Nevé also has a weddings and events page. For a large order, ask the maker directly about quantity pricing; it is rarely on the website.
Are you a maker who should be on this list?
If you pour candles in New Zealand and run a wholesale programme, tell us and we'll read your page and add it. Every entry is corrected or removed on request.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy NZ-made candles wholesale without a shop?
Some makers say so and some don't. NŌLA lists online retailers among the businesses it accepts, and Nevé's form has an option for a website only. Earth Candles' page asks for a physical store.
What is the minimum order for wholesale candles in NZ?
NŌLA publishes $300 before freight. The others we read send their minimums on enquiry.
Do you sell candles wholesale?
No. We are a small shop building a range from these makers, not a supplier. What we're building.
Where can I get cheap candles in bulk?
Plain dinner, pillar and tealight candles are the cheapest per candle. National Candles in Wellington lists a Seven Hour Candle from $7; Earth Candles sells 100g tealights in packs.
