What's the catch with a single-maker club?
Nothing, if you already know you love that maker. Nevé's club sends Nevé candles; Lucy King's sends Lucy King candles. If you've burnt one and want another every month without thinking about it, that's a good deal — and at $0.73 to $0.89 per stated burn hour, roughly the same money as buying them one at a time.
The catch is discovery. A club is the natural way to try makers you haven't heard of, and a single-maker club is the one format that can't do that. Every New Zealand candle club we found is run by a maker sending its own candles, which makes sense from their side and leaves nobody covering the other side.
What should you check before joining any of them?
- How you cancel, and when it takes effect. Look for whether cancelling stops the next billing or the next shipment — those aren't always the same day.
- Whether shipping is in the price. Nevé's $58 is plus $9.99 flat rate; Lucy King's $40 is free once you're over $100, which a single monthly candle isn't. Read the shipping line, not just the price.
- What happens if you don't like a scent. Some clubs take exclusions, some don't.
- Whether you can skip a month. Most subscription tools support a pause; whether a club offers it is a separate question.
- What the burn time is, so you can work out what it costs per hour rather than per month.
How ours will be different, and what's still missing
One thing: a different New Zealand maker each month, chosen against the scent families you pick and the ones you tell us never to send. Delivery included in the price rather than added at checkout, because Stripe only supports shipping rates on one-off payments, not subscriptions — so the honest way to do it is to build it into the price.
What's missing is the price, and we're not going to guess at one. It gets set from real wholesale costs plus packaging plus a real courier rate, and until we have all three there's a waitlist and no number. The club page has the detail and the waitlist.

How much is a candle subscription in New Zealand?
The two we could price are $40 and $58 per delivery, before shipping. Lucy King's is $40 with free shipping over $100; Nevé's is $58 plus $9.99 flat-rate NZ shipping.
Can you get a candle subscription with different makers each month?
Not from anyone we found in New Zealand — every NZ club we checked sends its own candles. That's the one we're building, and it isn't running yet.
Can you cancel a candle subscription?
All the clubs we looked at are recurring subscriptions you can stop; check each one's own terms for whether cancelling takes effect immediately or at the end of the paid period. Ours will cancel at the end of the month you've already paid for, from a link in every email we send.
Are candle subscriptions good value?
About the same as buying the candles one at a time, on the two we could calculate: $0.73 and $0.89 per stated burn hour, against a $0.73–$1.00 range for NZ candles generally. You're buying convenience and discovery, not a discount.
When does your club start?
